Darn Blooming....what to do ?

Hi all,

lately I have had some really weepy clients....and last night I had a teen who was so teary during the whole process that her lashes bloomed like crazy and her mom at the end asked if "that white stuff would go away"......

I tried to get it off, I tried to cover it up with other glue that was thick/black, but still couldnt hide it.

What could I have done differently ? If she held her eyes too tight, I couldnt get to her short lashes.

thanks !

Mary,

Some clients are just so darn sensitive.
One of my clients just put her head down and she already started tearing.

One thing that I do for those weepy clients is to add eyepads to their lids because it's the bright light that makes them weepy.

Is she blue-eyed or light eyed? I find those folks are the ones with the sensitivities.

Were her lids sealed together? Sometimes it's how the lower lashes are taped down that can cause weeping. So be sure they are sealed up.

I am sure you will get other really good advice on this as it's always a problem......good topic.

Karol, What is "blooming"?

Blooming is when the adhesive is prematurely touched by water. This causes "blooming" and the appearance is white stuff.

I've never noticed that happening; maybe with certain glues? Does it happen with slower drying glues vs. faster drying ones? I've had my share of tear-jerkers but never saw that.

How can you fix it?

Hi Mary,

The girl that I trained with gave me this little tip at lunch one day.

I take a microswab and cut the tip off. Then I take the Nexcare clear transpore tape and fold a piece around the tip making a little flag. Then I take my curved scissors and cut a little crescent shape at the end of the tape/flag. I put the crescent shape along the lash line and I take my tweezers and get a lash or two on top of the tape and tilt it slightly so the lash is not totally flat on the tape and apply a lash. After I get the lash on I run my tweezers down the bottom of the lash so it doesn't get stuck, but even if it does, it comes off easily. It has helped me with some of the corner areas where I sometimes have problems with lashes sticking to the bottom lashes or tape and should keep the wet lash away from any tears. I hope I explained this right. If not, let me know and I will try to post pictures.

Ok, I hope I did this right. This is my first time posting pictures.

I forgot that I don't clip the end of the microfiber brush for this because I use the opposite end. I like the toothpick with the flat end too because it is a little shorter. I don't use this every time, but I always make one up just in case.

I bribed my 7 year old daughter to lay still to show how I use it. You can stagger 3 or 4 lashes across if you want.

I hope this helps with your blooming, Mary!

What a great tip! thanks Jill! Newbies with trouble isolating could use this beautifully. I can even see 'weaving' a few & being able to do 3 or 4 before moving the flag. Can we call this girlj's flag isolation tip? Really cool.

Yay!!! I did good!

Thanks Jill-that would be cool! I have placed as many as 5 lashes across, but 3 works best for me.

I think this would work great for those times when the tape up method makes the lashes go wonky.

How do you apply the lash without it sticking to the bottom of the flag when your putting it on?...curious

I *think* you separate with the flag, then tilt the flag so it pops up the lash. Keeping the flag close to the lashline (where you wouldn't be lashing), and extend the lash.

?? girlj-Jill
Is that right?
jp

P.S. If this is right, then its a good tip for when at the end (grrr!) you think you need one more lash & you've already removed the tape, etc.

That's right JP. And once I let go of the lash I run my tweezers down the back to make sure it isn't stuck and also to smooth the adhesive. If it does get stuck it comes off very easily.
