Good morning all,
I am trying to decide where I should start with some internet marketing. I bilt a website myself, problem is its all Flash which I now find is not so SEO friendly.
I am currently working on a blog and have listings in a few top relevant local web directories but I have gotten lazy about getting more once my fingertips started tingling form building my website.
My questions are
*Is anyone using something like Ad clicks, and has it been fruitful for you, aprox how many hits per month-actual business. *Do you use Constant Contact an email/newsetter service for yr clients? My concerns with this is I dont feel I have enouph to offer. I personally find monthly letters to be clutter in my mailbox.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks Lizzy

IMO, if you're trying to be found by new clients, flash sites are totally counterproductive for anyone like us that is not being looked up by our names on the internet or Google. They are gorgeous .. and the work well for companies like Tiffany, Reebok, or Rolex... because customers already know the name.
All of the content that resides within Flash is invisible to Google... so your page, no matter how relevant it is, won't come up.
At the end of the day... what do you want to spend your time doing? :) Pushing advertising around or doing the work and making $$$???
The very best thing you can do is put up a simple website that takes the place of all [worthless but expensive] yellow page advertising.
I do simple sites for people like us... and for about $160 per year, your site will rank very high for local searches for your services.
The real problem with so many practitioners (I do alot of sites for hair stylists, eyelash gals, massage therapists, etc)... anyway... the problem is that they have an idea in their head of what they want their site to look and smell like (teasing here)... and many times that is counterproductive to the site doing the job they need it to do - which is to get the phone ringing and bring in clients!
I'm not saying you did this... but generally speaking, most practitioners are not coming at putting up a site that delivers what the PROSPECTIVE CLIENT wants to see... and all the while being highly visible to Google so that their page comes up within the top 5 listings for a niche search.
If you get a decent little site built .. you can just do a little tweak to it every week or so in the beginning.. then after a few months, just a little update every month or so... and usually that is enough "life" in the site that Google will favor it.
The way to get great Google results is to do it honestly.. and by putting up appropriate content and updates.. you should rank within the top 3 for your area for a service like this.
You don't need ad clicks, etc (IMO) Just get a visible site that works for the clients. :)
edit: PS... I just went and looked at your site.. I love it... but when I did a search for "san diego permanent makeup" it came up about #90 in Google.
I think you should just put up another site (leave your current one alone - it's very nice)... but put up another one that will work like a yellow-page ad for you with more effectiveness for prospective new clients.

Hi Lizzy,
I have a twin-kie that works for a web development firm in Seattle (so far away, sigh) and when we last got together, she spent days optimizing my content for search engines. I believe I am among the top to come up when doing a google search for permanent makeup kentucky or permanent cosmetics kentucky, thanks to her help. Really it comes down to content and how often you have certain phrases in all your pages, and even naming your jpgs.
I have no flash, but I get at least 50% of my business from new clients pulling my website. Seeing as I pay literally $10 a year for the domain and do everything else myself, this has been the highest pay off for my investment.
This year I decided to try to get in a yellow page ad right next to my competition. We'll see how it goes. It just got released and I haven't seen it yet, but I couldn't search for myself online with their listing yet and I'm kinda irked about it. (seeing as it costs over 30 times what I pay for my domain name...) ---------- ~Kat, CPCP~ SPCP Member & Certified Western KY www.CosmeticBeautySalon.com

I know all about how google works.....now. :) I think I have good content but as you pointed out not for a search engine to find.I don't do any black hat.
If you look up "San Diego Permanent Makeup" you will find me on page 1 or 2. Not my site directly but you will see "Cosmetic Ink" in the heading ,through a few on line web directories. I blog alot on them and through good keywords am able to keep those positions.I know thats about the best I can expect with my situation.
I was considering another site but was advised to try an add campaign for a few months. Wanted to get the poop-scoop from our industry and see what the girls had to say first.
Your right, I was doing that. I did my own site because I did not like the PMU web designs out there. Not knowing that a "Flash" site was counterproductive at the time. I wanted to showcase my work and me.Not that I was trying to be different, no. I am a cosmetic tattoo artist.I don't wear a lab coat. Have to admit, at times I sure was having fun with the flash. It turned out to be another creative project.Next time I will leave it to the pro's.I have to have creative control though.
Thanks for your advice. Lizzy
