Doing a little survey here. How many of you wear magnification glasses? How many wear regular glasses and how many do not wear any type of glasses when doing procedures?

I use a 5 X power lighted magnifying glass. It has it's own stand and a LARGE area in the middle. Would not work
without it !!! I also have the clip on glasses in 4 X if needed,..but I really like the LIGHT with the magnifying glass. I don't care how good your vision is, to do PMU I feel everyone should use some kind of magnification.

I work with a super bright light at the work area. Otherwise, I'm lucky. I don't need any magnification. I can see the needle going in the skin, I can even check over my needles for barbs, etc. My vision up close is kickin'. However, my reading street signs at night....and I passed my street... Could be years of computer work or genetics, but for procedures, it is great. And I may have age on my side as an advantage....

Ha,Ha, I want to make a bid... Who older that 41 do not use a magnification glasses? LOL, just kidding.

Except Myopics (nearsighted people) without any corrective glasses for " far vision", most (if not all), after 41-45 will enter the Presbiopia or " need forever glasses for reading or near works "till we die".

This is a natural process of aging were our intraocular lens, (the Crystalline), start loosing, in a progressive matter its faculty to accommodate or focus without the help of glasses for far and near vision.

The new Multiphocal Intraocular Lenses after Cataract Surgery is going to help a lot. Probably some will use an extra help to see fine details as we want for PMU though.

I use 3X magnifiers and they take a toll on my eyes! This is the Opti visor and I really don't like the fact that it sits on my head! by the end of the day my hair is so flat. Any suggestions on what else would work??? I tought of getting perscription glasses just for my work. I am far sighted and can see great at a distance, but up close I can't see a think without help.

kimber- the magnifiers you get from www.prestigeelec.com do not sit on your head. They attach to your glasses or you cn wear them alone, depending on which type you get. You want the 5X ones
They are called magni-specs or something like that.

Okay, my next question is, if someone has perfect vision, should they still use some sort of magnification for tattooing.
My answer is yes, but I want to hear from all of you, cause I could be wrong :)

Hi ya Brandy,

I have had great close up vision and unable to wear a magnifier. They make me dizzy and queasy. For some reason they also through off my depth perception, that knock on wood is till sound. With that said it SUCKS aging. My eyes have changed drastically over the past few years with age, hormones and years and years of straining the old eye muscles. Dry too. So I now have to take my glasses off to tattoo or all goes blurry. I just got my eyes checked and need new scripts. I have two different (bifocal) eye visions. Oh what fun aging is NOT!!!!

Brandy I think it is truly an individual thing and changes over the years. Good lighting that does not cast shadows is a must for all.

Plus other parts of the body are starting to break down that were never a problem for me and seems to be at an accelerated pace. I get the thrill of arthritis in my ribs and hips now too. Funny my body tattoo career was short and sweat and running a foot peddle and sitting in so many new stretched out positions, knocked me out before I could really get it going. That is sad! Glad I tried and learned and I am vary angry at my body know longer playing denial with me. Sucks. Could not take the chance for me of any other body parts breaking down and jeopardizing my sole passion of doing SofTap. If I cannot tap I am dead. I am happy I know were my big flash collection is. All my books are at a friends local shop and all else. Plus at least 4 other local tattoo shops have a part of me with them too. I am just sad and mad I invested so much into something my body will not tolerate.

But I will be the oldest, in pain, double bifocal wearing SofTaping momma on the planet. Until death do us part.

Good Question Brandy!

I just use magnifying glasses. Couldn’t live without them! I have so many in my shop that my Health Inspector thought I sold them, lol. I have drawers and drawers of new ones, all in different magnifications, lol

Waving “Hi” to Yolanda ~

Even if I was 18 years old I would still want to check my needles with my 30x Jewelers Loop!

Deb Hern, lol loved your reply!

I have every strength of Optivisor but I don’t use any of them. They through off my depth perception (same as our Miss Jane). I can’t use them (I’ve tried). I do however have them available for students in case they like them while working. Because I hate them, ~snicker~

Liza uses these little clip on mag’s that I think I might try.

Year’s ago the Doc let me use his $3,000 pair of lighted surgeon’s mag head-wear. I did use them, however like our own Miss M says….. “my head is never in the right position to provide light where I want it” I have to agree.

So Miss Brandy, to answer your questions:

* Yes, I wear regular magnifying glasses.
* Yes, I do believe that even people with great vision might benefit with some sort of magnification, even if it is to double check needle tips or double check work when thought complete.

I agree, I could not work without magnification. I use a pair of plastic framed glasses , with no glass in the frames, but the magnifier glass, (#3 power), out in front. I would love to know where to find more of them. Anyone know where? I don't want those flimsy metal ones, preferably the good old fashioned plastic frames I have.
