Do you guys just ever have the urge to say, "I'm just gonna do it myself!"

I did that with my brows several years ago, (LOVE them) and am getting ready to give them a refresher, and last year I did my lipiner (LOVE it) because I can put exactly what I love to put on all my clients, plus it is a GREAT instant sales point that they can look at me and see my work. The eyebrows were super easy. The lips took a few touch ups to perfect, but the result has sold me quite a few clients when they say, "Even your lips are done??" and I say, "I worked on them myself." They have even said, "I don't need to look through your book, I see your work and its what I want."

(Note to new techs, I had several years experience before working on myself the first time, and then waited another several years before working on myself again. You may want to make sure you are experienced and EXTREMELY confident in your work before you take on the task and go really, really slow and careful. And it is not for everyone, and probably most people on this board will tell you NEVER to work on yourself, but I just have really limited availability for other really good techs and really wanted myself... anyway if you doubt anything at all, get someone else to work on you. Otherwise you are stuck with it or have to have someone else rework it. I wanted what I put on everyone else, that is the only reason I work on myself...anyway...)

I REALLY want to redo my eyes, at least the bottoms. (The top stays somewhat dark, but the bottom always turns grey even though they use straight black color. I want it DARK, and that is how I always do it on everyone else and get great results.) I am sure it is the technician applications, and since I'm not the one doing it, I have to put up with how everyone else does it. But I am THISCLOSE to wanting to try and at least work the bottom again to see if I can get any more color to show up. I know, I know, it's really close to the eye and very hard to work on one's own eyes. But I REALLY like the way I do my eyeliners. Do you guys think I could pull the lower lid away from the orb and at least run along the lashline, with both eyes open?

Does this sound crazy? I have had my eyeliner done at least 6 or 7 times since 03 and it fades so fast and doesn't take like I think I could get it to. Has anyone else had success doing their eyeliner, or am I just a freak?

Don't know why the rebel that excels at everything is asking if she should do it.
Kat, you know you're going to do it regardless of our opinions. And the more that we tell you not to the more you're going to want to prove us wrong. That's just the way you are, crazee:)

No you're not crazy Kat - I did my brows, it was a snap, and I'm about to do my lips (if I can stand it). When you're very confident, do good work and have a very strong artistic "gene", at some point you're going to want to do it on yourself! Congratulations to you. Nora

Just curious Kat, your unretouched photo of yourself on your website shows a quite thick and dark lower liner. This is more than I would ever tattoo on anyone. Why would you want it darker than that?

I will not suggest a "Do It Yourself Lower Eyeliner".

We have double inervation in our Eyes.

One is a Motor or voluntary system, that allows the eyes to move in all directions and in most cases we can dominate (unless damaged);ex: Looking up,down,to the sides or Eyelids closing/opening.(Inervated by the Cranial Nerves III, IV, and VII.

The other is dominated by the Symphathetic System,or Involuntary , meaning that it's regulated by our body and we don't have control over it ( unless with the use of external substances).

The sensation of the Eyes, as pain, cold, foreing body etc, is dominated by this system via the V cranial par ( mix par, meaning has Motor and Sensitive actions).

Any thing that touches the eyelids, the Bulbar Conjuctiva( the translucent tissue that lines our ocular globes) and the Cornea, will send an instant message to our brain and will elicit an "involuntary action" as a defense mechanism to protec the body as is the sudden closing of the Eyes and the intense tearing to " dilute or wash out" any foreing substance.

Now, imagine that with the needles in your sleepery eyes, and that the motor reflex make you close your eyes and the " Motor reflex of your Hands" make you to "Go in" isntead of Pulling out the instrument.

Results could be from Cornea Laceration to Cornea Penetration, Conjuctival or Eyelid laceration, and worse.

Some how, the upper Eyelid is easier to do as your are closing the eye, hence protectecting the globe, and the natural bulge of the Eye will tend to slide the instrument down more that inside the eye.

If you can master your own techniqhe, kudos.

I hope I can keep my PMU friends and trainers around to do my eyes ... I Love you Sooooo Muchhhh!

Yes, I have done my own eyeliner, brows and lips before.
MY brows lips are easy for me, although the first time I overworked my lips,...the anesthetic REALLY worked !!! It took 2 weeks to heal over and I thought I had scarred my lip badly. Fortunately it healed well after that. I will be more gentle next time. I have done my eyeliner, but doing the corners are risky as the cornea is SO close to the needle. I'll leave that for a PMU friend to do. I did a really good job though.

Brandy, you and I differ on a lot of opinions in general. My typical eyeliners can get more on than that if the person wants. However, the picture is from almost a year ago with the help of mascara to 'brighten' the look of the liner. I just feel like maybe it has lightened again a little bit on the bottom. I could probably wait out another year, but it seems like I can't get longer than two years out of my eyeliners before they lighten quite a bit. (To me anyway. And that's despite trying to protect from the sun, etc.)

Nancy, I'm not planning on doing any corners, I just want the bottom darker.

I would say that two to three years is quite normal for the length of time a lower liner would last.

I've done over 10,000 procedures and it has been my experience that lower liner can have a tendancy to migrate if it is tattooed dark and thick. This can happen no matter how experienced you are, because the skin is thin and gravitational pull can cause migration.
I would rather tattoo a thinner line on the bottom, even if they want it thicker, and have my clients happy with me five years down the road.

I've seen so many eyeliners that have migrated, fuzzed out and even the dreaded black that has turned to turquoise.

In tattooing I always think less is more. I'd rather do a touch up every two to three years and have it natural looking for my clients.

Kat, your eyeliner looks lovely on you and I would let it be for another year or so.

I love Kat's lipliner, and the eyeliner's just terrific (in my opinion). However, I think the brows are much too grey looking. Could correct them to look blonder, maybe. Just a suggestion. Love the shape tho'.

Scouser,

Its in the works actually. I'm letting all my wild hideous hairs grow, then I'm going to have my aesthetician wax them, apply a hair removal gel, and then a day or two later, I'm going to refresh them. I have to darken the right one slightly and then use a pass of Anti-grey to warm them up. Should be a piece of cake.

Thanks to all the nice remarks, I think I am mostly happy with my eyeliner for another year. (Thank you Brandy & Scouser.)
I might be able to get another full year out of my lips, depends on how that pigment brand did. I've switched to Derma Intl and so far am much happier with them.
But yeah soon as Don gives me the go ahead that the eyebrows are fully grown, I'm going to have him clean them up and give them a warming refresher. Should balance things just right. (Although I am naturally a dirty blonde, so the tone has been pretty good, but you know how cool things go as the years go by, so I'm going to warm them just a tad...)

I actually think its fun to discuss each other's looks and get everyone else's opinions...

Well I did it all on me as well: Lips, brows and eyeliner. I'm happy with the results. Also my brows and lips were done very soft so they need a refresh.
I use Li pigments by the way. And a french pigment for the eyeliner

The problem with a biggger and darker lower eye liner is that it will expand with age as the skin ages.

I know, but I DOOOO love eyeliner. And if it stayed that long, I couldn't be happier! (Only 27 right now.)
