irritated here. april 21, tyra aired 'beauty tips from around the world". a gal from the green tea spa in NYC was on doing permanent makeup, her name is Verika. she insists she does SEMI permanent makeup with vegetable and mineral dyes and that Permanent Makeup is bad. she actually says "this is not tattooing, definitely not tattooing" and in the NEXT breath says "i am using a needle.." she wont return my emails asking her what makes her think what she is doing is SEMI permanent and what the HECK is she using that's 'vegetable dyes" no protection on the client, no protection on the hand piece, type this in to see this mess: http://www.imeem.com/people/3NyCHVT/video/J-QttpeF/tyra_banks_show_april_21_2008_beauty_tips_from_around_the_world_Part 3 GRRRRR

Gads!!!! I was watching a program a few weeks back. "Plastic surgery make-over show" The Dr. Had a pmu tech in his facility. I observed her doing several things that didn't look right. Noticed she was using a rotary pen as the camera zoomed in. THEN noticed I could read the label on it because there was no barrier film or sleeve tubing on machine or cord. so.....ggggrrrrrrrrrrr from me also. Hollis

Ok here is where I was able to view it...you can copy and paste this... http://www.imeem.com/people/3NyCHVT/video/J-QttpeF/tyra_banks_show_april_21_2008_beauty_tips_from_around_t/ White Tea Spa... http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/39865267/new_york_ny/white_tea_spa.html says she was trained in Europe and uses vegetable dyes. She didn't use barrier film, cord cover...touched everything with her gloves...AND NEVER even gripped the eyelid OMG.
Edit notes: OK ...her name is Verika Sedick and she has been with White Tea Spa about a year. White Tea Spa 104 W 14th St Ste 2C New York, NY 10011 Phone: (212) 647-8919
http://www.whiteteaspa.com/ SHE SAID IT IS NOT TATTOOING on the show. I asked for the owner but she left...they said her name was Anandy or something like that and would not provide more info. So Tyra Banks thinks permanent cosmetics is bad - of course now so does her viewers. Tyra has no idea what she was viewing was, in fact, permanent cosmetics, i.e., cosmetic tattooing.

It was difficult to get specific viewer numbers but I did find a Forbes article that in 2006 said 2 million people watch her show weekly. This is not a small issue. Now we have thousands, possibily millions of women thnking they can get vegetable dye semi-permanent makeup. Can't wait for those calls to come rolling in.

Verika Seddick - White Tea Spa- Green Tea Spa on the April 21 Tyra Banks show is extremely stupid or mis-informed or possibly lying to 'distinguish herself'. The Green Tea spa or White Tea spa or whatever flavor tea spa should terminate Verika Seddik immediately. Verika Seddick - White Tea Spa- Green Tea Spa on the April 21 Tyra Banks show states incorrectly that she is apply semi permanent makeup, she says to Tyra "you never ever want permanent makeup on your face" and then says "I will be using a needle". Such a contradiction is Verika Seddik. The performance was quite entertaining, very unprofessional in its lack of safety and hygiene. She applied the 'numbing product' for about 5 seconds and wiped it off. Then with no client protection she dipped into her "vegetables" with her "non-tattoo-needle" and did not control the eye she was (not) tattooing. She then sat the woman up after one pass with no wiping and the audience oooohed and ahhhed. What the heck is wrong with Tyra Banks? Do NYC or NY state require tattoo licensing? If so, what would madame Verika Seddick - White Tea Spa- Green Tea Spa on the April 21 Tyra Banks be licensed FOR? And if they do and she is not licensed for tattooing--OOPS-bad Tyra. All in all, the Tyra Banks Show on April 21 was a devastating blow to the Industry and Verika Seddick - White Tea Spa- Green Tea Spa is dispicable in her ruse or ignorance, which ever is the case.

Tattoing is bad? But airbrushing young women to shove down young girls throats is a good thing? Some of these shows (no name mentioned) are just really commercials and they sell it as "girlfriend sharing" to mostly a young female crowd. Most men don't watch these shows. Dr. Phil was selling some diet pills for apple and pear shaped people while he was on his show telling people diet pills don't work. One hostess was showing reasonably priced clothing for the everyday woman. Skirts at 400. Sandals at 500? I have news for that hostess that is what the woman at Walmart makes all month. GRRRRRRRRR too, the misinformed and then mindlessly follow. ---------- Karla Kwist,CPCP Las Vegas

Emailed to the Spa! Dear White Tea Spa, It is very irresponsible to not understand the services your business offers. There is no such thing in the US as "Semi Permanent Makeup". We are not in Europe. In fact, misleading the public at large could come back to haunt you in a very bad way. Permanent makeup, Permanent cosmetics is in fact cosmetic tattooing. If there is a needle, skin barrier, the potential for even a tiny drop of blood, does not wash off it is a TATTOO. There is no such critter as vegetable dyes. Having your employee go on "Tyra Banks" and dish out erroneous information and work in a manor that depicts cross contamination is disgusting. Do you not care about the safety of your clients and your business name? Not to mention the staff of the show not doing research just grosses me out. I suggest you contact the SPCP at once and do some research! what i think verika seddick misrepresents is something i dont think she even understands. to clarify: that is dyes, colorants and pigments used by reputable manufacturers from the select "fda approved colorants" (used for cosmetics, drugs and food) vegetable dyes assoicated with tattooing are dyes used in the food industry to dye vegetables, fruits and meats. verika seddika infers that she uses "vegetable dyes" as in they are dyes MADE from vegetables. Nothing could be farther from the truth. She is clearly mistaken. The 'vegetable dyes' we use are not vegetable in origin, rather they are dyes USED to dye vegetables- to make veggies, fruits and meat appear brighter and vibrant! as not maggie says verika seddick is obviously trying to distinguishing herself as "different and better", but she comes across as mis-informed and ill equipped. Her lack of hygeine is over the top. Her innuendo that she is using SEMI permanent ANYTHING is blatant fraud. Verika Seddick needs to speak to her pigment supplier. and quick!

Wow....I haven't seen a Not Maggie in a long time! Someone sure is prissed off! Semi-permanent makeup belongs NOWHERE in our industry - at least not until that Freedom stuff comes along. What is Veronika Sedick going to do then? How can she not admit that she is tattooing? Is this being naive or manipulative? And what are we going to do about Mz Tyra Banks? She rode that horse right into town, no? Anyone know how to comment there? I can't find anything.

That explains it! I had 2 calls this week asking me the difference between "semi permanent" and permanent makeup. I told the clients there was no such thing, that I had heard of markers that wear for a few days if not washed off, but who knows what kind of dies and inks are in them!! Now I know why the calls are coming in......Thanks a lot Tyra. I simply educate the callers, but they are looking for the semi, good luck to them :( Maybe we should all email the show? ---------- Earleen Bennett,CPCP Asheville Permanent Makeup Clinic 146A Victoria Rd Asheville NC 28801 828-255-5554 www.ashevillepmc.com ashevillepmc@bellsouth.net

I am not finding any way to email the show, but you can post on their beauty blog for all it is worth! Many, many women are requesting info on the semi permanent makeup. Here is the link to the blog: http://tyrashow.warnerbros.com/2008/04/the_bling_bling_facial.phpDeb

Well! I'm really disappointed that Tyra's staff were not more poractive in thoroughly researching prior to having their guest on. It certainly would make one question other guests that have been on. I for one wrote a letter to 2 email addresses I was able to find. I also posted the following on her site... "Please ladies, I must set the record straight. SEMI PERMANENT MAKEUP is not Semi-permanent. Perhaps in Europe there is such a thing. Here in the states, it does not exist. Semi permanent hair color washes away. Pigment of any sort implanted into the dermis does not. Micropigmentation or permanent makeup, by definition is a form of tattooing used to apply PERMANENT MAKEUP by implanting pigment into the dermal layer of skin. Governing associations for micropigmentation support the fact that while permanent makeup can fade as time passes and though one might have some initial fading from the skin’s natural exfoliation process, this should be considered a permanent procedure. Most practicioners actually cringe at the very idea of micropigmentation being advertised as semi-permanent. At this time there are no pigments approved by the FDA for the purposes of cosmetic or traditional tattooing. That being said, of the studies that have been conducted, iron oxide pigments have been shown to be by far the safest. To make the implication that "vegetable dye" is safer than iron oxides, is absurd and simply not true. While I understand that perhaps not enough research was done on the subject, I do feel quite strongly that having this guest on the show has done a huge disservice not only to credible practicioners, but to potential clients interested in having procedures done. Ladies, please thoroughly research before you commit to having a procedure done. Numbing a clients for all of 5 seconds and then wiping off is not industry standard, especially on an eyeliner. Quite frankly, were I a client, minimal numbing would have put me off completely from having any permanent makeup procedure. Most people numb for at least 10-15 minutes. Also, it is common for practicioners to draw on their work to ensure that they are providing the client the look that they're going for (because again, it is permanent!). It is also very important for your practicioner to hold the area that is being tattooed very taut. By holding the eye taut, it ensures more accuracy for the practicioner, but it also ensures more comfort for the client. Please also make sure that your practicioner has good safety practices. I hope I've been informative and helpful. Please do not mistake my post for bashing, but rather education on what should be considered a permanent procedure. " I certainly hope that Tyra makes good and has some credible and distinguished PM practicioners on her show to fix this. I'd hate to think that people are walking into the white tea spa, with the impression that what they will be getting is not for keeps. Shame on her and shame on her employer! Dorrie

I e-mailed the "spa" last night before I went home. I had a response this morning. "quite condescending" told me that the procedure had already been preformed, she was just doing a demonstration. WELL...doesn't that just make everything better. The person made no mention of my pigment comments, or that she needed to contact the SPCP and get with the program. What a load............... I forwarded it to Liza. Hollis

Tyra's blog doesnt seem to be posting any more of our responses. I tried to post this: The blip on 'semi' permanent cosmetics was very misleading and incorrect. Pigment applied to the skin with NEEDLES is TATTOOING! the white tea spa can pretty-up and gloss the name, but there is not truth to it not being a tattoo! Ask Verika how to REMOVE her 'semi' permanent makeup. DEAR PUBLIC- there is NO such thing as semi-permanent makeup applied to the skin with NEEDLES!

I get so frigging tired of people acting like tattooing is a bad word or something. We are highly trained professionals and they outa be asking the SPCP if they really want the straight scoop. I sure hope there is some way to get the show to discredit this person.

Liza, your post was successful on Tyra's blog. Another poster responded with the following..... "Actually there is a Semi-Permanent make-up...wow bitter party of one. I had my eyebrows done they look fantastic. the dye the Dr. used was like a Henna most of it wore off after a year and a half and then I re-did them. All he did was scratch the surface of my skin. Trust me Ive had many bits of body art done this was NOTHING like that. I also did research on the INK used in permanent cosmetics and you are at risk for an adverse reaction if you enter an MRI. So, it is Semi-Permanent cause he even let me know that if I really hated it I could have it removed with a series of Glycolic peels...I sincerly doubt if I tried that with the tattoo on my ankle that it would have any effect at all. Posted by Allison | 05/09/08 5:09 PM"
Are you kidding? I'd like to know what this doc's credentials are! Sheesh!

Goodness! I just called the White Tea Spa...I cannot get over the misinformation and reassurance I was given that this was absolutely not a PM procedure. That this was totally different than tattooing!? I did manage to discover that she is obtaining these "vegetable dye' pigments from France. Is that even legal? I'm just dumbfounded and totally speechless.

Also the dumb ass spa's they are, well $($#&$($)%$&^$)&^^^(&$&)^$*^%#()^(**$)^*(T&($#) !!!! Ok, How can anything that lasts a 1 1/2 be semi permanent? It is still there, just faded?
